Nov 26, 2019 In an interview with Der Standard, the head of Microsoft’s upcoming Flight Simulator revealed that VR is now 'very high' on the list of priorities.

- edited January 2017I have FSX and the demo of the VR wrapper fly inside.
The game is looking a little long in the tooth. there are heaps of graphics upgrades, some free, not sure how well they look in VR.
As an experience however its really good even on the default settings.
1 thing i will say tho, its such an old engine, its really inefficient and unlike most games this one spanks your CPU as opposed to your GPU so keep that in mind if you have a stronger GPU but an older CPU.
PS FSX is regularly in the steam sale for under a 5er so if you wait till then its not really a risk, and Fly Inside has a free demo.
PS dont forget the free Red bull racing VR game. i have not tried it yet but meant to be good.

Thank goodness for VR - Thanks. I think X Plane 11 and Fly inside will be a better combination for VR.Intel i9 9900K @ 5GHZ - MSI Z390 GODLIKE Motherboard - EVGA GEFORCE RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 - 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHZ Memory - 1 TB Samsung EVO PLUS Series M2 SSD - Corsair H115i Platinum Water Cooler - Phanteks Evolve X Case & 4xML140 Corsair RGB Fan - Corsair HXi 850 PSU - Corsair K70 MK2 Keyboard - Logitech G933 Headset - Logitech G903 Mouse - Oculus Rift S (Preordered)
- X-Plane 10 & 11 run very well in Oculus. If you are interested in both VR and flight, then I recommend them very highly. I believe X-plane 10 comes free with the new X-plane 11 (since it is still in beta). There are worlds of freeware for aircraft and geography. The thrust of the simulator is in commercial and civil aviation; but there are many opportunities for sport, experimental, and space aviation. You'll need to use additional software like 'Flyinside' which is relatively inexpensive and installs and operates effortlessly.
Are you familiar with 'Aces High' from Hitech Creations? I'm surprised it's not offered in the Oculus store. It is free to download and play off-line and inexpensive for multi-player on-line World War I and World War II combat. [I recommend familiarization in 2D first in the DX9.exe, then transition to the VR DX11.exe.] VR is now native(?) to the simulator so no additional software is required for VR.
btw, I use CH Products Fighterstick, throttle, and rudder pedals.
My name here is the same in both simulators. - I don't know about the Aces High but as long as I keep watching the videos of X Plane 10 and 11 videos in VR on Youtube, I'm leaning to buy a Thrustmaster Hotas Wardog set and get the X Plane 11 with the Flyinside VR addon.Intel i9 9900K @ 5GHZ - MSI Z390 GODLIKE Motherboard - EVGA GEFORCE RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 - 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHZ Memory - 1 TB Samsung EVO PLUS Series M2 SSD - Corsair H115i Platinum Water Cooler - Phanteks Evolve X Case & 4xML140 Corsair RGB Fan - Corsair HXi 850 PSU - Corsair K70 MK2 Keyboard - Logitech G933 Headset - Logitech G903 Mouse - Oculus Rift S (Preordered)
- With the warthog HOTAS, you will certainly want to consider the A10c addon to DCS world. That's the warthog by the way, the joystick for which you are thinking of buying a replica of.
if you haven't already, you might want to think about rudder pedals, as the warthog stick doesn't have a yaw axis (twist).
if you really want to push the boat out, or should I say plane, you might also want to consider something like this stand

While P3D etc. has better performance, it's still an outdated engine with lots of issues and unnecessary complexity, let alone that it's only 32bit means it can't even take advantage of lots of Ram.
Aerofly FS2 has very good potential (and performance!) for VR..but is still lacking in some regards.
It's also noteworthy to mention that ORBX dropped XP11 support.
Personally I think Aerofly has the best potential, unless XP11 gets performance issues sorted out. Otherwise it looks stunning, but this is still useless with abysmal FPS. - FSX is on an old engine, it's limited to 32 bit so you can't use more than 3 gigs of ram for it. But I think it's a great simulator, I prefer it to xplane. It's just so old. P3D is pretty decent, but it's still based on an old engine. I bought FS2 and I think it has potential but FSX is 100x better IMHO.

I disagree with your views on x-plane and the abysmal fps. I'm forum admin at flyinside and use x-plane all the time. If you fiddle with the settings you can get a 'great' experience. I'm getting 40 to 50 fps and the full 90 ATW in VR constantly. However your views on fsx and p3d are good. P3d has the most potential as, fingers crossed, 64bit is coming one day. But these are still very usable. DCS world is a must and free to boot. Flyinside offers a 15 minutes try before you buy and x-plane 11 is also a free demo now.XP11 'runs very well'? I totally forgot that P3D has native VR support, somehow. Must give this is a shot.
The last time I took a look at XP11, talking about 15-25 FPS here..even the best ASW can't boost this up to 90FPS. 45FPS steady would be the uttermost and absolute minimum to make it only halfway viable. Yes I know it was a Beta..and I still hope it gets better FPS since otherwise XP11 looks awesome, no question. - I'm talking ATW, flyinside has ASW enabled as default but can be disabled with a tick in a box. Everyone who has tried native P3D VR has tried it only once XP11 is getting better mate and yes it is stunningA PC with lots of gadgets inside and a thing to see in 3D that you put on your head.
- Well I'm downloading XP11 trial and I'll also download the flyinside demo to decide what I should or want to do. - I have FSX and used it for years, and tested it with FlyInside. Good, but the engine is so old. even in 2D FSX begin to have acceptable framerate in our current powerful machine, and visually I have difficulty to feel immersed. I grabbed Aerofly FS2 because it was new (and still far to go as early access) but they have a brand new engine and VR is simply amazing with 90fps everywhere (I7 3770K and GTX1080). If you are an hardcore simmer too many things are missing currently I guess comparing with FSX XPlane and P3D, this team work hard to add all, but if you just want to fly, glide, etc. it's simply perfect and visually stunning.

- have a look at this game, it looks quite good

Gave it a quick look. I'm not sure if it's still meant to be in beta, as a VR game it would only qualify as 'early beta' in my opinion.

Given that they don't mention beta state anywhere (but talk of 'free to play AAA game') I assume they consider it finished. If so then it's very disappointing.
The menus are barely working (tried with HOTAS and with mouse) and are reacting extremely slow on input (I am constantly wondering if I have successfully selected something or not).
While in the menus the background view always rotates around your plane in the hangar. That's sure to make many VR players sick, also as this movement is anything but smooth.
Changing throttle during the race doesn't do much, even the sound stays nearly the same (and is far too low).
It doesn't seem to be possible to crash. I never got a half way realistic 'feel' for the plane, let alone experience presence (opposed to War Thunder for example).
The replays are worst. Often you are looking at some random point in the scenery with the action taking place behind your back. The image is often completely out of focus, too.
Good thing it's free to play (but advertisement and paying options are annoying). I would be furious had I paid money for that game. - I was on the original beta. Loaded it flew it once and uninstalled it. Nuff said !!!A PC with lots of gadgets inside and a thing to see in 3D that you put on your head.

- Yup, that is very worthy of a mention too.
i like the A-10c module and although the Spitfire is a pain in the proverbial to land, it is still pretty nice to fly. - I've given Aerofly 2 and DCS World a try. They look great, but they both make me queasy. It's that disconnect from physical feedback. Would love to play a decent flying game though, without the sickness. I was very into fighter jets when I was a kid. Sadly, I need to hold off until an affordable motion platform exists, but anyway, I was more impressed by DCS of the two.
- No one mentioned War Thunder yet!?
I've only dabbled with it so far, but as a free to play from the foundation of IL-2 it's well worth a look.
i found a good write up on the VR within:

X-Plane looks good, there are some really good videos from Oculus owners on YouTube.Hello guys,
Has anybody tried any of the following simulation games on Oculus Rift?
- Microsoft FSX
- X-Plane 10 or 11 beta
How is the experience in VR? I was planning to buy one of the simulations for myself either FSX or X-Plane (I'm leaning on X-Plane 11) and also get a Thrustmaster Hotas Wardog and play it in VR. I watched a couple of Youtube videos and they seem to be great. But it would be great to hear some opinions from the community hear before I take the plunge.
Thanks.
There is also a demo for X-plane so you can at least check that one out.
War Thunder is OK and its also FREE on Steam☆ YouTube 'Content Creator' and 'Steam Curator' ( https://www.youtube.com/user/ParadiseDecay ) ☆ Devs! I'm always on the look out for new and interesting VR experiences! ☆ Oculus Rift CV1 ☆ Windows 10, 64 bit ☆ Intel Core i7-3770 ☆ 16.0GB Ram ☆ GeForce GTX 1060 - I tried to run the x-plane demo It takes forever to load then After you decide where and what to fly It loads and downloads updates and more stuff. I never did try it out. I can get up in the air in no time at all in AeroFly 2. Major updates soon. For now, you run it with both steam or Oculus open. It is being worked on so you can by it in the store.
